About Golf Ball Checker
Golf Ball Checker helps everyday golfers see the differences between golf balls. You can compare specifications and UK guide prices for 92 balls and make your own choice. You don't need to know your swing speed, and we don't tell you which ball to buy.
Where each value comes from
Every value on a ball page has a label showing where it comes from:
- Manufacturer
- Published by the ball's maker. Linked to the page we checked, with the date we checked it.
- Independent
- Measured or published by an independent tester. Linked, with the date checked.
- Our label
- Our own description or label, such as feel (soft, medium or firm), the spin labels and the "About this ball" text.
- Guide price
- Our rounded guide figure for a UK price. Not a live shop price; once a price has been checked against a shop or review, it carries that source and date instead.
- Calculated
- Worked out from other values, such as the price per ball.
- Not yet checked
- A figure compiled from maker and press coverage that we haven't yet re-checked against a linked source. It's our best current figure, and it gets a source link and date when its ball is reviewed.
"Not published" means we have no figure for that spec. We never fill gaps with guesses, and we never add a source or verification date we haven't checked. Compression is listed in two rows: the maker's own figure (Titleist, Callaway and Bridgestone publish none) and independent measurements, because the two are produced by different test methods and often disagree.
Current status: 33 of 92 balls have had values checked against linked sources (last compiled 1 November 2026). Values still awaiting a check are tagged "Not yet checked".
Prices
The price shown is a rounded UK guide price for a dozen balls. It isn't a live shop price and shops vary, so check before you buy. Price per ball is the dozen price divided by 12. Where a brand isn't normally sold in UK shops (Maxfli, for example) or needs a membership (Kirkland at Costco), the ball's page says so instead of pretending there's a normal UK shelf price.
Specifications to read with care
- Compression is shown as two values: maker-stated and independently measured. Different test methods produce different numbers for the same ball, so compare like with like.
- Spin labels (low, medium, high) describe how a ball is presented. They are not standardised test results.
- Feel is our label based on how the maker describes the ball. How a ball feels is personal.
- Model years matter. Makers update balls every year or two, and the versions can differ, so each version is listed separately, labelled current, previous generation or discontinued.
- Swing speed: we don't group balls by swing speed or work it out from compression. Where a maker publishes swing-speed guidance and we have checked the source, it appears in that ball's specifications as guidance only.
Independence
Golf Ball Checker is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by any manufacturer. It has no adverts, affiliate links, accounts or paid features, and sells nothing. Specifications are written in our own words and format. We don't use product photos or brand logos: colours are shown as plain swatches.
